Caput Mortuum Handmade Watercolour
One half pan of handmade watercolour, in the earth colour Caput Mortuum.
A gorgeous, heavily granulating, single-pigment colour. Caput Mortuum has a rather crazy history. The name is Latin for “dead head” or “worthless remains” and while it is currently (and thankfully!) made from hematite (an iron oxide) or PR101, there are a few stories that say this colour was once made from ground up mummies... O.O Can’t tell you how happy I am that that is no longer the case...! Lol
I mean, there are paintings of people.. and then there are paintings of people...
All jokes aside, this is one gorgeous colour. In different lighting, it can lean toward either violet or maroon. It is easy to activate and luscious.
