January Shop Update and Rewards!

January Shop Update and Rewards!

January 2022

Finally! We've made it to a watercolour shop update month! Whew! :)

I hope your winter (or summer!) is going as well as it can be at this present moment in the world's affairs. I know for many of us, painting has become a helpful tool in coping with stress and the new normal that we continue to find ourselves in. I'm so grateful for the gift of colour and and creative art time. I find it to be so refreshing to just enjoy playing with paint and watching the colours flow.

Before I get into lots of exciting new things, I'd just like to say a big thank you once again to everyone who has taken the time to support what I do in some way. I truly appreciate you. Make sure to read right to the end to find out about some coupons...

Now, on to the New Colours for January:

(Please note that colours will look different on different screens, but at least you can get an idea with these preliminary swatches.) Here we go!

#1 Cavendish- previously released as a dot sample.

Cavendish is a peach sands colour that is named for the beautiful beach on Prince Edward Island here in the Maritimes. PEI was a large part of our family vacations for many years and I just love those red sands. If you've ever heard of a certain red-haired orphan who loved Green Gables, you know the area I'm talking about. There is something so special about that area, just seeing photos of it feels a bit like going home.

Not that you have to use this colour specifically for red sand beaches, it's quite versatile. Try painting some soft tea roses or earthy pottery. You can even use it to add a rosy blush to a smiling face. It's also just the right colour for certain spring flowers, like parts of coloured poet's narcissi or soft blush tulips.

#2 Amethyst Cove- also a previously released dot sample

This gorgeous colour is named for an incredible beach right here in Nova Scotia. The location is definitely a rockhound's dream, but not easy to access (think long hikes and crazy steep cliffs .. with ropes!). But, you really can find chunks of amethyst right there on the beach at times! :)

My version of Amethyst Cove has stunning granulation and separation, giving you a texture-rich experience even on a smoother watercolour paper. It shows off its unique attributes best when applied in a juicy wash.

A little hint for granulating paints: give them time to do their thing. Let them dry undisturbed for maximum results.

Semi-Transparent

#3 Damson Plum - swatches on 2 different types of paper

This plum is plummy indeed. Deep and luscious, and with a fascinating colour change during the mulling process! Damson plum has quite a wide range in colour values, and shows a lovely personality even in light washes.

A great selection for the botanical artist, wonderful for both fruit and florals.

A little behind-the-scenes: When I was in the creative process with this colour, I had no idea what it was going to do next. What started on my slab as a rather muddy blue became a sort of denim colour... then it kept becoming more plummy with every swipe of the muller! Such a lovely surprise, I'm truly glad it turned out the way it did.

#4... I also have one more new colour coming out- you'll have to stay tuned on Instagram to find out more about that one! It's a fun one!

Some other new things...

Have you heard about Humbug's Club Rewards? :D

I'm so excited about this! Here's how it works:

When you open up the website, you'll see a new little feature down in the bottom corner. When you tap on the tag with a heart (in the webpage of course), it will open up a little window.

It's a free membership that allows you to collect points, in our case, Humbug Dots ;) to redeem for coupons or free shipping, etc. You get 200 points (I mean Dots!) just for signing up, and you can earn Humbug Dots with any purchase on the website.

But, the real reason I created (ahem, HUMBUG created, cough cough) this system is for the refer-a-friend coupons.

This is something I've been trying to sort out for a while, and I've finally got it set up for you! Wheeee! So fun. :)

If you have a friend that you'd like to introduce to our watercolours, you can send them a $10 off coupon to our shopify store. When they redeem their coupon (on anything in our store) - guess what? You get $10 off too! Now I like that!

Just a little way for me to say thank you!

You do need to have an account, but all it takes is your email address and name so it can send you your coupons and such. I have ZERO desire to share your email address with anyone, so I'm not collecting them for some nefarious purpose, I promise! :) You'll have a faster checkout once you set up your account, so I'd suggest popping in sometime soon and just setting that up so you'll be ready to roll on Watercolour Release day!! You'll get those 200 points right off the bat!

That's all for now!

Back to mulling! Stay tuned for that last new colour....

Hugs,

Rebecca :)
